Why are we here

Purpose: to distill practical life lessons from the world’s spiritual texts, across the field and without bias.

SKEPTIC-ish believes (ha ha) that by examining the holy books of our world through an unbiased yet intentional lens, we can extrapolate practical and actionable techniques to help us minimize the suffering in our own lives. Our mission lies heavily on two core beliefs:

1.) Religious holy books have valuable lessons in them. Whether or not you believe in the factual occurrence of the events being detailed, the drama in the fables, parables, and allegories no doubt provide a striking landscape upon which moral argument can imprint itself upon you. For millennia these texts have compelled human beings to become believers in them and practitioners of their teachings, and its because of this jarring fact that non-believers would be remiss to toss the baby out with the bath water, so to speak.

2.) Learning these timeless principles can minimize suffering. The hallmark of intelligence is being able to learn from others, and not recreate their mistakes. That may sound pedestrian, but think back to your youth. How much of your parents warnings and rules fell on deaf ears only for you to realize later they were right all along? Now sure, you may not regret sneaking out or cutting class to have some harmless fun, but what if now you could learn how to avoid tarnishing an important relationship? Or develop skills to overcome universally experienced pain? Instead of relearning what others have learned centuries ago over a lifetime of struggle, spiritual yearning, and existential panic, we can download our predecessor’s software, de-bug it, and keep the goodies.

We are NOT here to:

  • degrade or defame any religion or holy book
  • convert atheists
  • convert theists
  • provide a sweeping philosophical “theory of everything”

We hope to provide you a place where you can not only learn, but also interact with a community of your peers. Whether you be a Christian, Jew, Muslim, atheist, what have you, if you’ve found yourself here, we are all peers in the journey for a better life and a deeper spiritual understanding.
